More for Congressmen?

My brother and I often don't see eye to eye on politics, which is understandable within families.  I am not sure how he voted last year, but I know he really did not want to vote for Trump as of September, so if something happened afterwards that caused him to vote for the Orange Man, then so be it.  I think Chaffetz actually does his party a disfavor in asking for more money, because while paying for two residences can be expensive, it isn't as if it wasn't something that should have been thought about when running for office.  Let's face it, you choose to run for office, maybe more money (a housing stipend) would be a nice thing, but hey, isn't everyone after more money?

Just read the article, which confirmed what I thought - he's the one who's leaving office early. According to the article, the average net worth of a congressman is 11 million dollars. Don't know where Jason is on that scale, but very few congressman are pinching pennies. I'm with you, Jeff. Don't apply for the job if you can't live with the benefits already offered.

According to some research,

Members of Congress are also provided with an annual allowance intended to defray expenses related carrying out their congressional duties, including "official office expenses, including staff, mail, travel between a Member's district or state and Washington, DC, and other goods and services."

I don't know how much the allowance is, or how much of those expenses are covered, but it's probably a decent stipend. His timing stinks - he's proposing getting extra money while his party is floating a health bill that cuts (or 'reduces spending') Medicaid by billions of dollars, and gives tax breaks (or, I guess, rolls back taxes) to the very wealthy. For many people who can't afford ONE home, paying someone so that they can have a second home must seem like pouring salt in the wound.

Oh - here's an explanation. Mr Chaffetz is joining Fox News. We all know how sensitive Fox is to the poor!!

I wonder how Mr. Chaffetz constituents feel having him leave office early so he can pursue more lucrative opportunities in the private sector? When he announced earlier that he was leaving, I thought he cited health reasons. I guess there was no way he could maintain that fiction if he's showing up on Fox news. Reminds me of Sarah Palin, who resigned from her office once she found a more lucrative offer. Real dedication to public service.

Cheryl, Mr. Chaffetz just decided he could be a better stooge for Trump on the Fox News stage, since he obviously couldn't do much after he pretty much acted in a fashion that required him to recuse himself from the whole Russia mess.
