What is Art?

Are animation cells art in and of themselves, or is it because of their relationship to a film (short or feature) that has been declared a "classic"?

Well, the cell itself could cause a re-examination of the film as a whole, and in that sense could be art. I'd read someplace this week that artists don't create, they revalue, and, applying this argument to the pieces they produce, cels might just fit the bill...

One thing to remember though is at the time of their creation they were not considered art. Are they art for reasons similar to DuChamp's Readymades, because someone proclaimed them art?
